I've have been so excited about posting my artistic impression of this photograph since Eugene shared it with me. He was traveling in Xian, China and got separated from the tour group and went into a back room of a terra cotta factory where a man was finishing a piece of furniture. During this time of year kids were out of school for the summer so she wasn't actually doing her homework but rather the studies were given to her by her parents to try and get an edge up and be ahead when school reconvened. As he told me, apparently only 71% of high school grads go on to higher education and it takes two incomes to send your child on. The lighting in this image immediately struck me as it gently lit the young girl's hair. I could invision this as a great piece of art. I hope you agree. Let me know your thoughts...click the comment link below. I love getting feedback from you.

Oooooh, Andrea! This one made me catch my breath when I saw it!!! It's absolutely stunning. Truly exceptional. I love the way you painted it - wonderful brush strokes and a perfect blend of cool and warm colors. You should enter this in a competition!
Excellent use of color transition and background. It sets the mood similar to an old master's style painting with a wonderful timeless subject.
Classic!
Great image Andrea
Gorgeous Andi! Would make a beautiful canvas!
Very Nice Andrea
Really shows great focus on her studying.
Lovely, Andrea. You captured the moment. Well done.
Great job, on a great subject!
Absolutely beautiful!

I LOVE how you painted this, Andrea!
Beautiful Portrait Andrea!
"Great work Andrea! I especially like the red sandals. They seem to me the focal point of this painting. Although the back light reflecting of the page brings attention to the little girl's face."
Beautiful painting! So much about it that I like! Where to begin? Colors, textures, subject matter, background and those red sandals! Wow! Very cool!!
"Andrea-very nice!"
love it!!
Very appealing. I like the look with the crosswise strokes as if it were painted on a board with a palette knife
This is very painterly and intriguing image
This is a fantastic piece, the scene has such a great story-telling quality. I love your splashes of colors, in your loose style of painting this, so very painterly looking and great job on the lighting focus.
This is lovely, Andrea. I'm partial to people in the midst of life paintings
I love your painting of young girl: her studying, her dedication, her spirit and total focus to her study.
Your painting is inspiration of human spirit.
Hi Andrea, well done!! just imagine how all this happened I separate from my group, happen to get this shot at that moment, search craigslist see Ralph post for a lense that I don't need but such a deal, I meet him he answer all my dumb questions about nikons, and I ask if it's ok to send him a picture I was proud of. all things happen for a reason

Love the old painterly feel to this image. Love the colors and the background and your wonderful use of brushstrokes.
Andrea-Fantastic use of Painter. Great blending and brush work
I just love the image. You've captured the child's single-minded concentration on her efforts wonderfully. Really expert use of light on the subject and shadows throughout. The background blending is superb
I too like the sense of 'concentration' that is conveyed.
Once again, another beautiful piece.
As an oil painter who swithed to corel this peice of work shows me I've still much to learn. Beutifull mood and I love the canvas texture.
Superb color palette Andrea. The balance of elements are perfect
